 The Cathedral of Chania
- CHANIA
- had a resident bishop until 1940, St. Francis, its Venetian Cathedral at one time a Mosque, is now the Archeological Museum. The ‘’Assumption’’ the new See, was rebuilt after an earthquake and concecrated in 1879; It is flanked by a former college, ran by nuns and a monastery entirely remodelled in 1990.

- RETHYMNON
- a tourist centre, saw St. Francis Church turned into a University room. In 1856, the monastery was erected and in 1897, St. Anthony’s was completed. 1988 had been a year when long and hard work was crowned with success.
 Rethymnon's
- IRAKLION
- the chief port and the busiest town. Its church is no longer SAN MARCO, the Venetian Basilica, but St. John the Baptist, rebuilt in 1962 after an earthquake. The monastery restored in 1985 serves as pastoral centre.
 Iraklion's
Nearby is the Orthodox Church of St. TITUS. It contains the head of the saint. It was returned to CRETE from Venice by Pope Paul VI as an ecumenical gesture in 1966.

- Although this new seaside resort still lacks a church, a Sunday evening mass is said in the Orthodox chapel of St. Charalambos, perched on top of a hill, a beautiful spot indeed, but far too small and remote to receive an ever-growing congregation of holidaymakers.
