Welcome to Hania,
The prefecture of Hania covers the western part of Crete. It covers an area of 2 376 sq.km and its population according to the 1991 census, is 133,747.
It is divided in five provinces: Sfakia (Fragokastelo, villages of Imbros, Askifou, Anopolis, Aradena, Agios Ioannis), Kissamos (Kolymbari, Kasteli, Falassarna, Sfinari, Elos), Selino (Paleohora, Sougia, Lissos), Apokoronas ( Kalyves, Aptera, Plaka, Almirida, Georgioupolis, Kournas) and Kydonia (Hania, Akrotiri, Souda)
Basically, it is a mountainous prefecture, as it contains in its boundaries the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) 2453m. However, wonderful beaches also exist mainly in the Libyan Sea (Paleohora, Sougia, Lissos, Finikas, Agia Roumeli, Sfakia, Fragokastelo) which is at the southern part of the island.
Hania is the capital of the prefecture. It is a beautiful town, built on the sea... but you can get more and a lot of information if you read the tourist guide.
